Soccer or Football?

Yesterday I watched a girls soccer game that made me wonder what parents are thinking when they teach their kids to be agressive and hateful. This team that we played has got to be the most agressive team in the league. We're talking 12 year olds tackling each other hard enough to cause each other pain! This team got both a yellow card AND a red card- and its a recreational league here people! Needless to say our team lost cause we didn't let our girls stoop to the level of the Orange team. (what's the irony in that?) Time after time I watched their girls slide tackle our girls and their parents saying "remember girls, you have to cry to get a yellow card"- can you believe that?
Now I'm normally a very calm person, but I just about got into it with one of the dads from the other team. At the end of the match, one of their players had the gall to tell our girls that they "lost because they are mexican". Now if that offends me, I certainly think it offended the 13 girls on our team of hispanic descent. My daughter is one of five on the team who are not hispanic, but she doesn't even notice- they're just her teammates and friends. So I decided that their coach needed to know what was said, and I told the referee and filed a complaint with the league. It's no wonder we have problems in this world if parents are teaching their kids such racism.
My girl got a workout at keeper, nearly got taken out a couple of times and finally got so mad that she was ready to take out their forwards with her cleats the next time they charged her. That's my girl- she did it the right way. And we walked away from the game with our heads held high.

Reunion

Well my 20 year reunion for high school was supposed to be Oct 3-4th but was cancelled due to damage from hurricane Ike. Apparently most of downtown was flooded, including the building where our reunion was supposed to be. Our committee tried in vain to find somewhere else to hold it but there was too much damage. The reunion is being rescheduled for January 2009. Some of my classmates went ahead and made their trips to Orange as they had travel arrangements set already, so they met up at the football game that Saturday night. I couldn't make it since Alli had a soccer game that afternoon. We would have never made it in time. That's OK though January will be here before we know it.

I emailed a friend from HS yesterday that I haven't seen since Alli was a baby. I mentioned that my b-brother lives in the same town that she just moved to. That really confused her- all she remembered was my older brother so then I explained to her this morning the about finding my b-mom and brothers. I really need to get that posted here so I can just send a link to the blog instead of retyping everything.

Maybe I can get to that soon. Yeah right, as soon as I clean up all those soccer & volleyball pictures that I keep taking!

Something about Me

Since this is my first post I will make it short- I don't know what I'll be talking about but I imagine as I move on through this a general theme will emerge.
Mainly I wanted to be able to share our story and update my extended family across the country on events that are happening in our lives- like my Alli growing up on us. She is almost 13 years old and I am amazed how much she changes every day. Here she is warming up for her first Jr High volleyball game!

I am amazed at how many people are interested in my story when I tell them that I am adopted and have reunited with my birth family. There are more people in this world touched by adoption than you realize. For 34 years my birth mom told only one person of my existence, that is until I found her. I looked off and on for about 13 years before I finally had enough information and the guts to make the call that ultimately led me to finding her.
