Soccer or Football?

Yesterday I watched a girls soccer game that made me wonder what parents are thinking when they teach their kids to be agressive and hateful. This team that we played has got to be the most agressive team in the league. We're talking 12 year olds tackling each other hard enough to cause each other pain! This team got both a yellow card AND a red card- and its a recreational league here people! Needless to say our team lost cause we didn't let our girls stoop to the level of the Orange team. (what's the irony in that?) Time after time I watched their girls slide tackle our girls and their parents saying "remember girls, you have to cry to get a yellow card"- can you believe that?
Now I'm normally a very calm person, but I just about got into it with one of the dads from the other team. At the end of the match, one of their players had the gall to tell our girls that they "lost because they are mexican". Now if that offends me, I certainly think it offended the 13 girls on our team of hispanic descent. My daughter is one of five on the team who are not hispanic, but she doesn't even notice- they're just her teammates and friends. So I decided that their coach needed to know what was said, and I told the referee and filed a complaint with the league. It's no wonder we have problems in this world if parents are teaching their kids such racism.
My girl got a workout at keeper, nearly got taken out a couple of times and finally got so mad that she was ready to take out their forwards with her cleats the next time they charged her. That's my girl- she did it the right way. And we walked away from the game with our heads held high.
